9 Vegetables To Regrow From Scraps

Last Updated on 18/04/2021 by Mandy

All these years I have been composting my gardening scraps and recycling, and growing my vegetables from either seedlings or seed. I had heard before that it was possible to grow some vegetables from scraps, but once I tried it I am a convert.

For most green vegetables you need to cut off the end near the root (or base) and just plant it in the soil and give it some water. You don’t always need to have roots.

I was amazed by the speed of regrowth! You must try it!! There is much merit in removing the bases of your vegetables and putting them in water until you are able to replant them. It is not always necessary for them to regrow roots.

It’s a great way to grow a plant and know what it will be like in advance.

I have had the fastest success with:

  • Celery
  • Bok Choi
  • Pad Choi
  • Silverbeet
  • Spring Onions
  • Leeks
  • Lettuce
  • Broccoli
  • Potatoes

I am still waiting for these:

  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Garlic
  • Ginger

It’s a wonderful way to get quick results and the kids will be delighted !! Great progress for winter without adding any special soil mix. Just try it!!
